• The water treatment technique development research project follows the royal initiation of His Majesty the King. TOC Glycol Company Limited, a subsidiary of PTT Chemical, signed the research project of “Water Treatment Technique Development following His Majesty the King’s Initiation to enhance water treatment efficiency of industrial waste water from ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol production” with the Royal-initiated Laem Phak Bia Environmental Study, Research and Development Project and Kasetsart University to develop waste water treating technique from glycol production industry as an applied model of environment for environment treatment to treat waste water contaminated with organic substances. This project is a stepping stone that leads to development of waste water treatment technique with natural method in Thailand. It is the first petrochemical plant in Thailand to implement this system.
   
• Under the royal initiative of His Majesty the King, and in collaboration with The Chaipattana Foundation, PTT Chemical has developed plastic flap sacks to help alleviate the problem of landslides in disaster prone areas. Due to its design and flexibility, the flap sacks are suitable for high mountain slopes and its light weight and compact size make it easy for construction.
   
• Zoo Outreach is the project to enable learning from the source, i.e. the zoo to education at schools by passing zoological experience through learning process from actual examples with visit from the zoo to schools. This program also develops awareness, knowledge, skill, attitude, and cooperation from youths in environment and forest preservation with Zoo Outreach activity. The project is a cooperation of PTT Chemical, Maxima Studio, and Khao Kheow Open Zoo to bring the zoo to elementary schools in Rayong Province.
   

• Environmental Preservation Camp with Mr. Clean Science Camp for environmental preservation and energy preservation, with “Mr. Clean” as PTT Chemical’s environmental mascot, aims to create environmental preservation awareness to youth with the campaign of “Mr. Clean’s Team” to tell what they’ve learned form the camp to their friends. Mr. Clean members are representatives of various environmental activities initiated by PTT Chemical at schools, including passing knowledge and news about activities in the neighbors and communities.
   
• The support of Thai islands museum project. PTT Chemical provided funding for Thai islands museum’s building construction (Ma Jor Hill), the Royal Thai Naval Base, Sattahip District, Cholburi Province (Building C), to display plant species conservation project of the royal initiation of H.R.H Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn to preserve vegetation species on Samaesarn Island and educate students. The Royal Thai Navy cooperates with research specialists to collect plants in the area and display at the museum.
   

Eco-efficiency

• This project is the cooperation between environmental engineering department, the faculty of engineering, Chulalongkorn University and PTT Chemical Public Company Limited to assess the environment capability of the factories, prepare economic ecosystem efficiency report concerning environmental impact for PTT Chemical Group of companies. The report will be used to determine policy and goal to develop and improve resource usage and minimize wastes from production, service and transportation processes.

Innovation Projects

• Black soap project is a cooperation of PTT Chemical with universities and specialists from various fields to conduct research and develop knowledge and understanding of black soap plant planting and alternative fuel and synthetic substance production from black soap plant. The Company plans to publicize the finding of this research throughout the country, particularly in the agricultural sector as an alternative to improve quality of life and create sustainable value.
• The Company’s research project of special material from wood scrap and saw dust development for wood replacement and pollution reduction that may arise from deforestation aims to increase economic value of wood scrap and saw dust, reduce pollution problem from deforestation, and invent wood substitute product, “Polymer composites”, which is light and durable.
• Bio-degradable plastic research project for packaging products aims to reduce pollution problem with new bio-degradable plastic pellet development to be used in various forms.
• Thailand Innovation Award Project aims to provide sponsorship to petrochemical, polymer, and alternative energy category in bachelor, master and Ph.D. level. The project is consistent with the Company’s objective of Thai youth development with emphasis on education, research, and innovation to fit demands. The innovation must be literally implemented in industrial sector, respond consumer’s requirement, develop the country’s economy and society on sustainable basis, and create competitiveness in the international level.
• Tap Water at Khao Bot Temple Project supports the tap water system in Khao Bot community, Tap Ma Sub-District, Muang District, Rayong Province with Wat Khao Bot’s Kaem Ling (Monkey Cheeks) water detention development project to store water and prevent flooding leading to sustainable efficiency. Moreover, the Company constructed community tap water system for villagers to have adequate clean water for consumption. The good water management will help solving community problem and will be a good water management model to other communities in the country.
• Lum Nam Tap Ma Community Management Project which is a cooperation of the Company and Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute, and Ministry of Science and Technology, to promote water resource management in Rayong Province. It is the study of the area in Klong Tap Ma for Kam Ling (water reservoir) development to store water during rainy season and used during summer. The project has also applied mathematical model to evaluate water supply in the area and show data in the Internet GIS-MIS. As a result, the project provides water management system and operation during normal and critical time which helps educate PTT chemical group of companies, local officials and people about water management system.

PTT Chemical is prior committed to the health, occupational health and safety of its employees, contractors and surrounding communities. In fostering a corporate culture that values the safety of all employees, the Company is actively engaged in the following:

Production Processes. The Company has developed both process safety management and risk indicators to measure in all areas of productions, business and stakeholder involvements.

Training. All employees are required to undergo a safety culture development process which implements the Behavior Base Safety training to top up and highlight all safety rules and systems as well as task-specific safety training.

Work Environment. To provide its employees with the safest work environment, the Company has developed such programs as the ‘Walk Through Survey’ which measures the amount of volatile organic compounds emitted.

Employee Health. The Company has numerous health programs in place for the benefits of its employees. The ‘Hearing Conservation’ program is designed to prevent noise induced hearing loss or impairment and covers monitoring, testing and training. Annual health checks are provided to all employees and the results are recorded in an ‘e-Health Book’. Work life balance and other health activity programs promote the importance of physical and emotional health of all employees.
